Internal Self Review (G-uno)

Seeing yourself through the eyes of others is an incredibly difficult thing to do. I always wonder what the people on television shows like Survivor or Big Brother (yes I know your not suppose to admit that you watch those sort of shows, but I do) feel like when the show is over, and they sit down to watch themselves. On a daily basis we all have a front row seat to our unedited internal thoughts the real us, and yet most of us remain completely clueless regarding how we ourselves, or someone else perceives us.

Oh to be able to sit inside the mind of some of those people while they watch themselves in full action. To have the advantage of seeing how others perceive your personality, to hear how they speak about you to the others. Groups that you interact with on a daily basis form certain ideas about who you are, and there is always an underlying sort of agreement/group consensus about who you are. Even though we are physically present, and interactive we can not actually see ourselves. I think this is much like the way we hear our voices everyday as we speak, but then when we hear ourselves on voice mail we are taken aback by how our voices sound to others.”

There is a Gaelic quote that says “The best mirror is a friends eye.” I think it would be very beneficial to be able to see how we are perceived by others within our social/work groups, because it would allow us to perform a more accurate internal self review. As a society we seem to always be searching for something to help us find out how others perceive us. That is after all the reason we are all constantly taking those endless Facebook personality quizzes. 😉

I’d hate to hear some of the other people’s comments. People can be vicious during those interviews!

Agreed some of the players were absolutely brutal! I have to say I have at times felt really sorry for some of the finalists, and at the same time extremely fascinated by the perspectives. You never really can predict what they are going to say in the end. Do you watch Survivor and Big Brother?

I haven’t seen either of those two shows, but I did follow America’s Next Top Model when Heather with Asperger syndrome was a contender. I’ve also watched one of those shows for tattoo artists. They can all be so mean in the interviews.
